Residential Home renovation

1. Project Overview Location: Nairobi, Kenya Project Type: Full Residential Interior Renovation Duration: 6 Months Scope: Space planning, custom cabinetry, lighting design, material sourcing, and bespoke furniture curation for the living area, kitchen, master suite, and bathrooms. The Brief: The client desired a "breathable" home that balanced professional sophistication with a warm, family-oriented atmosphere. The original structure was compartmentalized and lacked natural light—a common challenge in older Nairobi builds. 2. The Design Approach Our concept, "Modern Afro-Minimalism," focused on clean lines and open layouts while integrating local craftsmanship and sustainable materials. Spatial Reconfiguration: We removed non-structural walls to create a seamless flow between the kitchen and living areas. Palette: A base of "Nairobi Stone" greys and soft creams, accented by deep "Savannah Green" and rich cedar wood tones. Lighting: Layered lighting schemes using energy-efficient LEDs to transition from bright, productive daytime vibes to warm, intimate evening settings. 3. Room Transformations The Living & Dining Commons Before: Dark, narrow spaces with outdated parquet flooring and heavy mahogany trimmings. After: We installed floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors to invite the lush garden views inside. The floors were replaced with large-format matte porcelain tiles. Innovation: A custom-built focal wall featuring reclaimed Mazeras stone and integrated smart-home climate controls. The Gourmet Kitchen Before: A closed-off "utility" kitchen with limited storage and poor ventilation. After: An open-concept chef’s kitchen featuring a waterfall island made of locally sourced white quartz. Materials: Dual-tone cabinetry (Matte Charcoal and Natural Oak) with soft-close hardware and hidden pull-out spice racks. The Master Suite & Bathrooms The Bedroom: Designed as a retreat, we used textured sisal wallpaper and bespoke furniture crafted by local artisans in Ngong Road. The Bathroom: A "Spa-at-Home" concept. We replaced standard fixtures with water-efficient matte black rain showers and a freestanding soaking tub. The Detail: Handmade ceramic tiles from local kilns provided a unique, artisanal backsplash that celebrates Kenyan craftsmanship. 4. Challenges & Innovative Solutions Challenge: Maximizing airflow and cooling during Nairobi’s warmer months without relying on heavy air conditioning. Solution: We implemented passive cooling techniques, including strategic window placement for cross-ventilation and the use of thermally efficient materials like stone and breathable clay-based paints. Challenge: Supply chain delays for imported luxury fittings. Solution: We pivoted to a "Local First" sourcing strategy, partnering with high-end Kenyan furniture designers and metalworkers. This not only kept the project on schedule but significantly reduced the carbon footprint of the renovation. 5. Client Satisfaction The transformation exceeded expectations, resulting in a 25% increase in the property’s market valuation and a space that the client describes as "a true reflection of our lifestyle—modern, yet deeply rooted in Nairobi." Client Testimonial: "The team didn't just change the wallpaper; they changed how we experience our home. Every corner feels intentional, and the way they blended modern design with local textures is nothing short of brilliant." 6. Conclusion This renovation serves as a benchmark for modern residential design in Nairobi. By merging international standards with local soul, we created a space that is as durable as it is beautiful. Interested in transforming your space?
